Located in the Mexican Caribbean, Cozumel is a flat island composed of porous volcanic rock. The most important natural elevation on the island is less than 100 m. The cenotes formed by the infiltration of water through the rock rock for thousands of years can be explored through activities such as swimming or diving, you can appreciate several marine species.
Roatán is one of the islands of Honduras in the Caribbean Bay. It is part of the huge Mesoamerican coral barrier and is known for its beaches, diving sites and marine life, which includes whale sharks. To the southwest is the bustling West Bay beach, with a coral reef close to the shore. Cruise ships dock in the capital of Coxen Hole and nearby Mahogany Bay. To the east are smaller towns, including the Garifuna village of Punta Gorda.

The port of Costa Maya has a new and modern tourist mall. The center has a central square with salt water pools and 'aquatic' style bars. There are several jewelry stores and many small stores that sell ubiquitous souvenir items. It is generally only open to cruise ship passengers.
Costa Maya is the closest access port to many of the lesser-known Mayan ruins in the Yucatan, including Chacchoben and Kohunlich. These sites are substantially less excavated than the better known pyramids of Tulum and Coba in the north; Chichen Itza and Uxmal in Yucatan.
